I had the same problem; it was old Digidesign drivers that caused it. I can't find them listed under supported systems. Digi Coreaudio Manager El Capitan The volume sliders are greyed out. CoreAudio is a trademark of Apple Computer, Inc. There is currently no standalone version for Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther".
